PLODs

At Callands, we pride ourselves on planning effectively to meet children’s needs and interests. The EYFS framework states that 'practitioners must consider the individual needs, interests and stage of each child in their care, and must use this information to plan a challenging and enjoyable experience for each child'. To achieve this, we plan all of our learning around children’s interests using a PLOD (Possible Lines of Development) planning sheet. We use our knowledge of the child alongside observations of the child and conversations with parents and carers to discover the children’s unique interests. We then use this information to plan activities to ensure every child is challenged and engaged in their learning. Please see the examples below.

Key Stage 1 (Y1 and Y2)

Introduction

In Key Stage 1 we follow a curriculum that is ambitious and designed to give all learners the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.  The curriculum has been coherently planned and sequenced towards cumulatively sufficient knowledge and skills for future learning and employment.

The National Curriuclum for Key Stages 1 and 2 can be seen by clicking on this link.  National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2

Below you will find Callands specific Curriculum information, which demonstrates how we have the same academic ambition for all our learners as learners study the full curriculum, 'specialising' only when necessary.  Please click on these links to access this information:

Additional to the quality of education we offer, we provide a curriculum beyond the academic, supporting pupils personal development, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and relationships, sex and health education.  This can be seen by looking at other planners etc on this website.

In EYFS and KS1, children take home a book to read for pleasure and they must also access Lexia Core 5 Reading online five times a week.  This is an EEF approved programme which provides differentiated instruction for pupils of all abilities. Lexia’s research-proven program provides explicit, systematic, personalised learning in the five areas of reading instruction.

Homework can also be found on the VLE for every year group each week.

In Lower Key Stage 2, children take home a Project X book which they must read five times a week.   These books draw on research, classroom practice, and a real understanding of what modern children like to create a truly effective and fun reading programme that all children love.

Homework can also be found on the VLE for every year group each week.
